Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park

Although strictly in Combe Martin not Ilfracombe, this is easily one of the best tourist destinations within easy reach of the town. Just a ten to fifteen minute drive from Ilfracombe.

The animal exhibits include, lions, wolves, sealions, meerkats, primates, penguins, birds of prey and exotic birds, as well as the new "Petsaurus" petting zoo. The wolf enclosure was made famous by TVs "Wolfman" Shaun Ellis, who lived with the wolves as one of the pack. Shaun is no longer there now, but for an additional payment you can participate in a number of close up experiences with the animal, including swimming with sea-lions, feeding the lions, and shadowing a zoo keeper. Although not cheap these experiences are very special and unique.

The park also boasts a superb animatronic dinosaur exhibit with computer controlled T-Rex, Megalosaurus, Velociraptors, and others, held behind dinosaur proof fencing. They maybe a bit scary for younger visitors and those of a nervous disposition, but rest assured they can't escape.

For more dinosaur information you can visit the Dinosaur museum with everything from fossils, to modern digital displays and cinema. Although not a theme park there is the Earthquake Canon train ride, which is well worth the extra pound per person. (You may get a bit wet)

The Tomb of the Pharaohs is a rather unexpected additional extra but worth a visit nonetheless. Refreshments can be obtained from the Jungle Hut cafe, and the Oasis baguette and deli bar.

There are numerous free talks and shows during the day, every day. Schedules are available on their website and at the park. Popular shows are repeated to give all visitors the chance to see them.
